Australia entry requirements
New Zealand citizens don't need to apply for a visa for Australia; you're granted a Special Category Visa when you arrive. US, Canadian and Japanese passport holders apply for an ETA (A$20) in the official Australian ETA app, and British citizens apply for a free eVisitor. Everyone completes an Incoming Passenger Card, on paper or, on some flights, digitally.

Australia questions, answered
Do New Zealanders need a visa for Australia?
No application is needed. New Zealand citizens are granted a Special Category Visa when they arrive with a New Zealand passport.
How do I apply for an Australian ETA?
Only through the official Australian ETA app. The service charge is A$20. Be wary of websites that offer to lodge it for you at a higher price.
Is the Incoming Passenger Card going digital?
Yes. The Australia Travel Declaration is on selected Qantas flights into Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and the government announced in July 2026 that it will roll out to all international airports and seaports over the following 12 to 18 months. Paper cards remain available.
Do Australians fill in a card when coming home?
Yes. Everyone arriving in Australia, including Australian citizens, completes an Incoming Passenger Card or the digital declaration where it's available.
